KIERAN GOSS TO OPEN 2018 FESTIVAL
The 8th annual Johnstons Folk Music Festival will be held in the village of Slane over the weekend of September 14th,15th,16th 2018.This year the opening festival concert on Friday September 14th will feature Kieran Goss with special guest Annie Kinsella. Kieran is long hailed as one of Ireland’s leading songwriters and performers and his music has won him a huge fanbase right across the globe. But if his songs have made him a star it’s his live shows that have made him a legend and those attending his Slane concert are in for a real musical treat. It is performing live on stage that Kieran Goss really shines. Kieran will perform the first half of the concert solo and will be joined on stage for the second half by harmony singer Annie Kinsella, herself a really talented performer in her own right. Individually they are both gifted singers but when they sing together the harmonies and chemistry between the two are just a thrill to listen to. Kieran and Annie are currently working on recording a duo album together which is due for release in Ireland in February 2019.
The Saturday night concert September 15th will feature Eugene Gallagher an emerging talent within the north east music scene. Following in the footsteps of the original Johnstons Folk Group, Slane man Eugene has been singing and playing the guitar from when he was fifteen years of age and has been performing at local music venues and ocassionally in the UK and Germany. In addition he is great demand for guitar session work in recording studios and to date has assisted with up to twenty other performers with their recording work. This concert will be his first Irish concert following his return from two very successful tours in Canada where he performed to over fifteen hundred people at concerts in Alberta,Calgary, Vancouver and Banff. He mentions James Taylor, Paul Brady, Shane McGowan, Christy Moore and of course the Johnstons as artists who have a big influence on his music and over the course of an hour and half concert he will include songs from those influences on his playlist.
Both the Friday night and Saturday concerts will take place in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Slane, commencing at 8pm with concert tickets available from the Tourist Office Slane Phone 0419824000
The festival concludes on Sunday afternoon September 16th with an open air concert from 3pm onwards in the Village Gardens Main Street, Slane.
