The Johnstons festival week is upon us and below is a list of all the major events.

The one big change this time around is that all the events, including the Saturday Sands Showtopping Show, with Ben and Colum Sands, take place in Slane.







Here are the programme of events:


Thursday night 10th July:

We kick off in Boyles Pub with the Slane Song Competition.

The final songs have been selected and will be performed on the night.

The winning song will be professionally recorded and made available on iTunes.

Commences 9 p.m. Admission free.


Friday night 11th July:

We move to the Boyne Valley Inn for the festival trad session featuring The Chapel Street Band and the Rossin Lady Dancers.

Commences 9.30 p.m. Admission free.


Saturday afternoon 12th July:

Showcase TV (Sky Channel 191) come to the festival to record!

Street activities from 1 p.m.

Stalls by Arts, crafts and local food suppliers.

Outdoor music and dancing at Slane Credit union.

Punch & Judy show for the children at 5 p.m.


Saturday night 12th July:

Concert in the Conyngham Arms featuring Colum & Ben Sands from legendary Irish folk group The Sands Family, supported by local band Carolan.

Commences 8.30 p.m. Admission €15 by ticket or at the door.


Sunday morning 13th July:

Festival mass St. Patricks Church Slane at 11 a.m.

Festival closing concert in the Conyngham Arms featuring legendary trad musician Martin Donohoe and clan, supported by lilter Seamus Fay and storyteller Eamon Maguire. Also performing will be a host of local artists including Mary Crilly and friends, Slane National School and Kentstown National School orchestras and others.

Commences 7.30 p.m. Admission €10 by ticket or at the door.
